Magico introduced the S3 2023 acoustics – a rethought version of the previous S3 Mk II, taking into account the achievements of the flagship M9 floorstanding speakers. Although outwardly the speakers have remained the same, down to the dimensions, Magico talks about the new cabinet, speakers and circuitry.
The S3 cabinet is constructed from 4 extruded aluminum panels, up to 2″ thick in places. The top plate (body cover) is made convex – this has a positive effect on the sound. Inside – a complex system of struts and partitions. All of this rests on three-point skid plates, with updated spikes moved out of the hull for better stability.
Magico talks about its proprietary laser interferometry technology, measuring 1,000 points on each side of each panel to calculate the intrinsic resonance of those parts. The speakers were created using the Klippel Near-Field-Scanner (NFS) system.
The S3 tweeter (its marking is MB5FP) used developments from the flagship M9. He received a beryllium diaphragm of optimized geometry increased in diameter from 26 to 28 mm, and even with a diamond coating. The magnet is neodymium, the rear camera has been improved.
The 8th-generation 5-inch midrange M390G XG received a three-layer cone – a honeycomb aluminum core between layers of nanographene and carbon fiber. The magnet system uses two neodymium magnets and a copper pole cap. A pair of 9-inch M905G XG woofers are equipped with similar cones with titanium voice coils. The linear course of the woofers is one and a half inches in both directions. At a frequency of 50 Hz, a sound pressure of 112 dB is promised at a distance of 1 m.
The crossover in Magico Elliptical Symmetry topology uses components from Mundorf (Germany). As a result, the range of Magico S3 was 24 Hz – 50 kHz with a sensitivity of 88 dB and an allowable amplifier power of 50-750 watts into 4 ohms. In addition to the natural silver color, Magico S3 is available in M-Cast color textured powder coating or glossy M-Coat.
In the UK, Magico S3 floorstanders in M-Cast finish are £57,000 and M-Coat are £66,000 a pair.
