he Klipsch has presented new active speakers for home use. In terms of connectivity, you can play audio wirelessly via Bluetooth and connect additional sources such as a CD player, 3.5mm jack, optical and USB. Even better, the R-40PM and R-50PM models both have phono equalization , so you can plug in a vinyl record player and enjoy flawless sound from the first chords.
“Under the hood” also hides impressive technical characteristics. In addition to a useful EQ and built-in amplifier, both speakers feature premium drivers: the R-40PM features a 100mm TCP woofer and a 25mm aluminum-coated LTS tweeter, while the R-50PM features a 130mm TCP woofer and the same 25 mm tweeter.
One of the big upgrades over the previous R-41PM and R-51PM models is the improved bass quality for both new products, with the R-40PM capable of extending to 60Hz, while the R-50PM can go even deeper to 55Hz. In terms of power, the R-40 model delivers 70 watts of total system power, compared to the R-50 model’s impressive 120 watts. In addition, there is a dynamic bass equalizer function that “optimizes bass reproduction in real time, ensuring perfect quality regardless of volume level.”
To achieve deeper reproduction of low frequencies, Klipsch increased the depth of the housings of the new models. The R-40PM model has 28% more depth than the previous R-41PM, while the new R-50PM model adds another 27%. Although the height and width have changed little from the previous version, Klipsch assures us that the new design is ideal for confined spaces such as desks and shelves.
Both models feature an improved Tractrix proprietary horn design that extends from edge to edge for improved coverage, bandwidth and sound direction control, allowing you to virtually control how sound is spatially distributed in a given room.
