The MR.CARVE M3 is perhaps the most complete and competent laser machine of the year 2022 in its respective market segment, bringing to the table dual lasers with blue and infrared light, which allows engraving both on wood and on metal materials and on top of that with industrial grade results. The MR CARVE M3 combines the benefits of a fiber optic marking machine like the DAJA M1 with the advantages of a traditional laser engraver/cutter, so it handles a large engraving area (400x400mm) and that offers many possibilities.
As if that were not enough, it includes a rotating roller for 360-degree engraving and has wireless connectivity to control the machine from the comfort of your mobile.
An easy to assemble open frame machine
The MR.CARVE M3 is designed as a modular open frame laser machine, which is bulky but not heavy. Be that as it may, it must be admitted that it has a neat and minimalist design , where there is little wiring that travels outside compared to more basic models.
That said, its structure is made up of metal parts in combination with ABS plastic sections , so it is not as robust as other machines, but we can ignore that detail considering that this does not compromise its stability when recording in the least. ; in fact, we can commend that this makes it light (4.6kg) and makes assembly a bit easier, since it requires few steps to follow to set it up. In a matter of 20 minutes it can be assembled and the calibration of the laser module is an even faster and easier process.
Speaking of the laser module, this one is interchangeable , and is a quality used to switch between the two lasers that this machine includes, each with their own specialty, but more on that later. What is worth mentioning is that one of them (the blue light laser) has an acrylic material cover that filters ultraviolet light, thus protecting the user’s eyesight when it is in operation.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that all the ports of the machine are conveniently gathered on the same side.
laser and features
The MR.CARVE M3 is a fiber optic engraver, cutter and marker in a single machine, and this is due to the fact that it is shipped with two laser modules that we can interchange according to the situation or, rather, the type of material with which we are working on. Going into details, the first one is a conventional blue light laser with a power of 10W and a wavelength of 455nm, which is suitable for carving on wood , bamboo, cardboard, plywood, non-transparent plastic, fabric, leather, etc. stone, glass, ceramic, acrylic and other non-metallic materials. According to the manufacturer, it can cut wood to a depth of 8mm and achieves a point accuracy of 0.06mm.
The second laser uses infrared light and has a power of 2W with a wavelength of 1064nm. This laser specializes in engraving on metallic materials with a degree of industrial quality that would never be possible with the first type of laser. In this sense, it can engrave on gold, silver, platinum, copper, aluminum, leather, opaque plastic, painted materials, stone, glass paint and acrylics. The depth in this case is 0.1m and the laser point has a precision of 0.03mm.
Engraving area and rotary module
As you can see, the material with which we are working will dictate the laser module to be used, but in both cases we will have a work area of 400 x 400mm and an engraving speed of up to 200mm/s, so the DIY possibilities are quite a lot. good, and we would even say better than those offered by compact fiber optic marking machines such as the MR. Carve M1, M1 Pro, M2 and M4, which are interestingly priced similar to this model.
To put the cherry on the cake, a rotating roller is included with the purchase that enables 360° recordings on cylindrical objects.
Connectivity and software
In terms of connectivity, the MR CARVE M3 has a USB port to connect to our computer, but without a doubt the inclusion of Bluetooth 5.0 is what stands out the most. Thanks to this detail, it is also possible to control the machine from our mobile using MR Engraver. Carve, an app for iOS and Android that simplifies the process of engraving or cutting. This allows us to start recordings using the images from our gallery and even photographs.
As expected, we can always use Lightburn or LaserGRBL from the computer to access more advanced options and perform more complex carvings. Additionally, MR CARVE offers a free software compatible with this machine, which is based on a SCAD distribution.
